BDVE370 Aspect Ratio Question

Hi I have a Bravia 40EX403 and a BluRay BDVE370.

A lot of the DVDs I have been getting are in 2.35:1 aspect ratio which I hate because of the black bars top and bottom. I can't find a way to zoom or stretch to fullscreen. Is there a setting in the bravia or the bluray where I can make the DVD fill the 16.9 screen. I try to get 16.9 aspect ratios for all bluray and DVDs but they seem harder to get now 2.35:1 is taking over.

So you buy a widescreen tv and bluray system from Sony and you have to watch dvds on half the screen. Why can't you just zoom in and lose a bit of the edge of the picture, or at least give the option to people who aren't so obsessed with original aspect ratio and quality. I find it hard to enjoy dvd or blurays on this system in 2.35.

You tried the zoom button on the BRAVIA remote? looks like a crosshair in a box near the top of the remoote.
