VGN-AR31M Webcam Problem

My webcam is no longer working on my laptop running Vista.

I looked in the device manager and there was no imaging device present.

I downloaded the original driver from the site and installed it but it still isnt working.

In device manager there is just an exclamation mark next to it and it just says in the properties 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'.

Id really appreciate any help possible.

Thanks in advance

Hi rinewby86,

In order to rule out a hardware problem withe the camera try the following.

Open Device Manager and uninstall the device. Also expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and delete all devices listed.

Shut down, remove the power adaptor and battery and then hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

Re-attach the power adaptor and battery and reboot. Windows will reinstall the USB Controllers. At this stage, hopefully you will find an unknown device listed in Device Manager. If so re-install the original driver.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help Rich.

Unfortunately an unknown device has not appeared!

Any suggestions?

Hi rinewby86,

Unfortunately as the camera has not reappeared I suspect that there is either a problem with the camera or associated cabling.

Unless anyone else has any further suggestions I suggest that you invest in an external USB camera.
