Sony Update Service crashes, and PCC doesn't manage to update.

Hi,

I don't know why, but the original thread has become "hidden" (and impossible to reply to)...so I guess we have to ask again!

Here's the problem:

Finally the ICS update has become available for my phone (SI 1253-7151) - yippee!

PC Companion pops up a message about the new update. If I click "Update", PC Companion starts downloading the update, finishes the download and says "Preparing computer for program updates".

Then it proceeds to

"Unable to install or start components for update of phone system"

and my phone does not get updated.

Then I have tried Sony Update Service, but now I can't even start it properly; the program crashes right after opening it. It just says "Synchronizing" and then "An unexpected error has occured. The application will shut down." so I never get any possibility to see why.

Again, my phone does not get updated.

Since both programs crash there must be a serious problem with the downloaded files (and they're probably shared between the programs?).

Apparently I'm not the only one experiencing it; I can see in a Norwegian forum that other people have the same problem - and in the original thread that you have hidden (!).

At the end of the day, what can we do, or expect? Are someone working on this?

I have the exact same problem!

But listen I have the Xperia x10 mini pro and the online support told me they have problems with their online servers and they are trying to fix the problem and I should wait for a while

doesn't work for me either. there seems to be a server problem i checked the PC companion logs (as it is using the update service as well)

i have this xperia active, i didnt check frequently on this blog if my phone have an update..

but when i plugged it to charge and transfer some pics..

pc companion shows that i have new phone software update..

i tried to update but failed to do so..

si 1253-9974

dont know if there's really update for my phone..

maybe il wait for couple of days for sony to fix this things..

im not in a hurry, im sure sony will fix this in no time..

hi, i've the same problem with my Arc, SUS crach after synco and i got "Unable to install or start components for update of phone system" when i try to update with PC companion...so please help

i'm from the philippines and up to now i still dont have the ICS update on my phone, by the way mr. edgieboi we do have the exact same SI NUMBER 1253-9974 for xperia active. and i thought the SI number is unique. the ics update came out last june 18, 2012 according to the SI list, but up to now there's still no update from pc companion..

I'm sorry but although I agree with what you wrote (don't write multiple threads on the same topic), I think this thread had a different topic, a separate problem, compared to those "multiple threads".

Anyway, now it looks like Sony has solved the problem, at least in my case...

SI numbers are not "unique"; then that list would have to be as long as the number of customers...

Try Sony Update Service - PC Companion didn't work for me but SUS worked last night.
