Help rooting my xperia pro 4.0.2.a.0.62

Hi everyone,

after deciding to root my xperia pro I found out that I cannot do it with the 4.0.2.a.0.62 firmware. I have an unlocked bootloader so I was wondering if the there is an easy way to gain root access?

If not, I have read that I need to downgrade to 4.0.2.a.0.42 and root with the zerg rush, and then I have to update back to 4.0.2.a.0.62 by using the update center, NOT companion.

Here is my problem, I can't find firmware 4.0.2.a.0.42 all the links I found seem to be broken! someone can provide a link with the official ericsson firmware (I don't want to try custom things since the camera doesn't work very well on those.)

you can't root .62 unless you unlock the bootloader (not recommended)

Hi uliwooly,

thank you for your answer. I found the firmware so I will try to root soon.

I knew I cannot do it under .62 and I had to downgrade :smileyhappy:. Second, I have an unlocked bootloader is it hard to root in this case? I tried to find some instructions to do it but it seemed way too complicated.

just out of curiousity, why did you unlocked your bootloader? If I were you I would re-lock the bootloader

Hi,

Not at all. I bought it brand new from the my provider. When I go to the service menu it says

unlocked bootloader: YES.

I read that some providers sell the phones with an unlocked bootloader so I thought this wasn't a major issue. I guess it is not that common.

I think I succeeded in rooting my phone, now I need to update back to .62 and learn how to uninstall stock apps that I don't want. Any tips in how to do that?

Hi, I have a problem again!, I downgraded de phone, then rooted, everything was fine and then I apply the firmware update .62 via the update center app and the phone is dead! It downloaded the firware hit install and that's it. The phone is gone, even if i hold the power button it doesn't do anything. However, when I plug it in to the pc, flashtool says that it is connected in flash mode. What can I do? did I did something wrong?

Please help, any comment is welcome.

Hi, are you sure? When the phone tried to install the update the phone restarted, then a sony ericsson screen appeared and finally a screen with 5 dots. The first dot is on but then the screen is turned off and gg. That's the end of the phone.

Do you say that I have to leave it plugged in for hours to fix it?

your battery was probably not 100% charged or at least 50%, try this, remove the battery, connect the phone to the wall charger > put the battery back on, do NOT try to turn it on, let it charge for an hour

does the LED turn on ?

Hi, the battery was fully charged. I think I know what happened. When I bought the phone I moved to another country and I unlocked the phone to use with any carrier. The problem is that my provider gave me the wrong unlock code and I had to use a test point approach.

I think that because of that I have an unlocked bootloader and I lost my DRM so I cannot do OTA updates, or repair using PCC (I already tried and it says I have the latest software).

I guess I am now stock with .42 firmware and I will never be able to have root and .62 firmware. The only option to have .62 firmware is to flash it with flashtool and I will loose the root access.

1st you didn't had to unlocked your bootloader to unlock your phone from a network, those are 2 entirely different things.

2nd yes your DRM keys are gone forever, you need to relock your bootloader to be able to use PCC, SUS or Bridge,

3rd there aren't much differences between .42 and .62, plus if you downgrade to .42 and you try to update OTA (assuming that would work) you wouldn't get .62 but ICS.

My phone SI is not listed in the ICS release so I think I will get .62. In fact, the update service says that the new firmware available is 4.0.2.a.0.62.

try to repair your phone with either SUS or PCC if it says "modified software" the bootloader it's unlocked, you can try to use TrackID if it doesn't work that might be the same reason.

Hi again,

First I will try to summarize my problem with OTA update. When I had the phone with .42 I rooted the phone and try to apply OTA firmware update (it says that .62 is available). So I download the update (takes 30 seconds) and proceed to install. Then, the phone is turned off and back on again. When starts a sony ericsson screen with 5 dots appear. First dot is highlighted, suddenly the phone screen is off and the phone becomes unresponsive. wait for 30+ minutes and nothing. So I just flash the fimware again and try to repeat without rooting, same result. (the phone battery was 70% or higher and it was unplugged from the power supply).

I have checked and definetely my bootloader was locked, so that was not the problem.

Concerning PCC: When I connect my phone with PCC companion it doesn't said anything about modified software, it only says that my phone is up to date, even if I have .42 firmware installed. Is there a way of forcing PCC or SEUS to wipe my phone and re-install it?

I bought my phone in Chile and now I am living in Australia, is it possible that this is why my phone cannot install the OTA firmware update?

At this time I ve downloaded .62 firmware and flashed it to my phone, so I have the latest software with no root access and my keyboard layout (hardware) is completely messed up. I' ve read that to fix this I need to have an unlocked bootloader which of course seems like a huge problem. Is there any other way.

if you flash .42 again, turn on your wifi > settings > about phone > software update do you still get the .62 update notification?
