Dead after update to ICS

I updated to ICS the evening of 9/28. By the afternoon of 9/30 the phone was acting glitchy. I powered it off and back on. It got partway through the at&t splash screen and the animation locked there. The audio began making a screeching noise. I powered it off again and that was it. It won't power up, it won't do anything. Is there anything I should try before I submit to at&t DSC and their warranty service?

Thanks Arnab! I tried that but the phone isn't recognized by the computer now. I am getting a red led, as though it is charging, which is something I didn't get at the wall plugin, so I will leave it for a while and try again.

Use sony update service, it works when the phone is off. Repair the software.

Have you tried a soft reset? (Holding the volume *up* and power buttons for about five seconds until it vibrates.)

I did try that GingerSnap. It did not respond. It appeared to be dead or bricked.

I looked into that once I was home. It concerns me that an upgrade to ICS saved my data but a repair promises to delete all my data. I may resort to that if I continue to have problems but not now.

Ok, So here is what has happened thus far. Several hours in the wall charger did nothing, no led showing it was charging or anything. I plugged it into the usb port of my computer and it began to charge. I left it most of the day and it seems to be fine now. See an above answer as to why I haven't yet tried the repair service.

Looking back on the day It had seen heavy use and maybe the battery ran down. Odd way to stop working though. And odder that it wouldn't charge. I still am wary of the ics update and kinda wishing I hadn't done it. Don't like all of the update. I don't like that I can't mute the phone from the slider lock (yes I know that I can unlock it and then hold the power button and mute. That takes longer and is unneccesary) but I dont need the camera on the slider. I could bring it up quick enough from the camera button. I dont like the slider to turn of the alarm (I'll admit I've only used it once) maybe it will grow on me. Over all the phone seems slower. slower to open the apps and such. Maybe it is just my perception. Maybe this will grow on me. I also kinda suspect that while the original os of this phone had a minimum of att crapware and that att thankfully didn't mess with it much, that they may have messed more with ics.

As for att... They offered to send a replacement that would arrive in a day or two. HOWEVER, if they determined there was any non warranty damage, I would be charged $399 for the new phone they sent and they would not return my old phone. If they determined there was non warranty damage I could claim it on my smartphone insurance and then only pay $125 for the new phone. My current phone is only 2 months old and shouldn't have failed. I don't think so att. We've had a long run, about 15 years, but you keep doing stupid things and doing me wrong and I will be going elsewhere.

It was a pain to have to go back and run repair service and then reset things but ics actually works now. Unfortunately the mic on the phone doesn't work. I've seen other discussions here saying the same. I am unable to use my phone as a phone. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

Saw on XDA a fix. plug in the headphones. You'll see the popup that headphones have been detected. Start some music and unplug the headphones. You should see a popup the the phone mic has been activated. Good luck! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529449
