I installed a wireless router to my home computer, and then connected my Xperia Ray. I did this because I needed to send some international SMS texts, and did not want these texts to go through my service provider, as I don't have coverage for international texting.. A friend who owns an iPhone 4S did this, and her iPhone automatically routed all of her texts through the computer connection. She was not billed for these texts by her wireless provider as a result.

I assumed that my Xperia Ray would automatically do this as well, and boy was I wrong. I received a huge cellular bill, and was not too happy about it.

My question is: How do I get my Xperia Ray to do what my friends iPhone does? How do I set my phone to send SMS texts through my wifi connection without having them go through my cellular provider?

I dont know how iPhone did that.. But an sms will go only through your cellular provider. Short Message Services are meant to do that.

While sending a message, the will first reach an SMSC (Short Message Service Center) provided by your carrier or Service/Cellular Provider (you cannot do it through your wifi), and then it will reach your sms Recipient (your international Friend) through several SMS gateways.

Wifi is one thing and Sending SMS is other. So far as I know. I still dont know how you friend is using wifi for this. You can use apps, right? like whatsapp, viber and so...

Have a great time...

Thanks so much for the reply, nick.222kail. I'll ask my friend w/ the iPhone how they managed to do that.

Cheers.
