Hello. Had my phone two days. Rapid battery drain despite: stamina mode, screen brightness, etc. Lasts 4 hours on a charge. Battery status status shows battery health ok. All tasks killed with task killer. Usage shows 85% Media usage. Sony suggested software update but didn't cure the problem. Drain graph is steady, whether phone is used lot or a little. This phone was a replacement for a Samsung that was swapped over by my phone company. They're telling me they have no more Xperia T's, so cannot even get this beautiful, but malfunctioning phone swapped over for another one. I really want to keep the T if I can. Any suggestions?? Thank you.

you already pointed out one of the issues

taskillers

if you have taskillers, antivirus, ram apps, task managers, battery apps, booster apps, this apps will drain your battery, as they will run in the background ALL THE TIME, unisntall them asap.

also no one can truly help you if you don't post screenshots

if you have stamina mode on and you excluded multiple apps that require internet access there is NOT point on having stamina mode as this apps will sync and thus drain your battery

settings > power management > battery > take screenshots of

1) the whole list

2) the graph

3-6) each of the top 4 items on the list

post them all here.

Hi,

Sorry for delay in getting back to you. Was waiting for phone to discharge to produce the required screenshots. Also, every time I clicked sign in/register it prompted me to REGISTER with my Google account and then for a new user name. No option just to sign in with password and user name. Then it told me email address already in use...? Of course it is, that's the one I used this morning to set the account up originally. The only way I could find to reply was to set up another account using another email address... Most frustrating!

Anyway, thanks for your interest in helping me. I really do not want to lose this phone if at all possible.

Ok: Phone was fully charged and switched on just after 12:00pm. Data connections all disabled. I literally just put the phone in my pocket. No calls, no usage whatsoever (you will see: no screen use is registered, which is correct, because phone not used). This was the result of five and a half hours of standby:

,

Nothing downloaded, as both data traffic and wifi disabled throughout. Screen not showing, as literally on for 15 secs over 5 hours (0.2% would be too small to show, I guess). Traced problem to mediascanner app which is CONSTANTLY searching for content, keeping the cpu very busy and hot continuously, even in standby. This is a documented Jellybean issue (see e.g. XDA developers website under mediascanner battery drain issues). I have actually stopped the drain for now by clearing my SD card and the internal memory of all media content. Since the scanner has nothing to look for, it doesn't seem to bother (now there is NO MEDIA showing on the usage stats. I activated Sony's extended standby mode, and power drainage is now virtually zero. All I need now is to able to achieve this without having no media on my phone and we're sorted! Any ideas? Thanks again, Nigel

PS, sorry about the alias. Again, I try to log in, and instead of being prompted to type user name and password, I am directed to i) Log in with my Facecbook account, ii) Log in with my Google account, or iii) Set up a new account. Whichever I choose, I am directed to input a NEW user name for some bizarre reason!

Also, when researching this issue, I noticed users had other problems associated with the bug: such as the mediascanner finding files that weren't there (nonsense data) and missing those that were. I appear to have witnessed this last night when I was scratching my head: the internal memory said 10 gig capacity, 8 used. This "8 gig" of media data consisted of four songs and video totalling about 10 mins! That's pretty bulky, even for a 13mp camera

Believe solved. Problem was a faulty SD card. Inserted replacement card. Deleted all media from internal memory and SD card. Switched off and on again. Reinstalled all media via Media Go. No more drain. I can keep my phone!

This issue is bound to affect many other users, and its cause is certainly not immediately apparent! An O/S update is definitely required, I say.

Thanks.

Nigel Foster

Just an aside - why do I still have to attempt to create a new user account in order to be invited to LOG IN instead??? This should have been fixed weeks ago! Ok, complaint over. Here's an important trick that may help some people with a rapid battery drain issue: When the contents of the SD card are changed, there may be a considerable amount of activity by Media Storage. This happens especially when the phone is switched on after having been switched off. The other day, I switched my phone off and back on again to try to get a better signal and Media Storage kicked in and gobbled 20% of my charge. So now, when I recharge my phone when it is switched off, I always switch my phone back on WHILST THE CHARGER IS PLUGGED IN. I then leave it plugged in and switched on for 15 mins or so whilst it does its thing, then I unplug and no rapid battery drain.

Hope this simple trick is useful to someone out there.
