Hi,

My one and half year old Sony Xperia U suddenly stopped working a couple of days ago. When I checked, the phone DOES NOT turn on with SIM inserted. Works completely fine (including Wifi) WITHOUT the SIM card.

Since my warrantly ended May 2013, I rooted and flashed my ROM with Android 4.2.2 (Cyanogenmod) and it worked for 3-4 months before it suddenly stopped working.

I took it to an authorized SONY service centre where they said that they would flash/update the software and fix the problem. But they say that because I rooted and flashed my ROM, they cannot update/reset my phone. I also offered to provide them my Bootlocker unlock key, but to no avail.

What kind of support is this ? It is clearly a hardware problem (because everytime I flash it with a new kernel it works fine WITHOUT the SIM so you cannot say I bricked it) and yet they cannot fix it because they cannot update the software ?

Your service centre guys said that they "cannot do anything" because my phone was rooted. They did not even check if there was a hardware error. I dont think that is an answer that I must get from someone qualified to be a SONY mobile phone expert. Since they couldnt figure out the issue, they didnt even give me a job sheet saying they cannot fix it.

Now, I am left with a one and a half year old Rs. 16,000 MP3 player.

I should have expected this kind of sub-standard hardware from a new player in the mobile phone market. Just pathetic.

Service Centre Details:

S.S. Electronics,

Shop No:- 5, 1st Floor Elephant house , Ameerpet "X" Road,

Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Ph: 040-40033634.

Similar/Identical issues reported (with no solution) :

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-U/Xperia-U-StartUp-problem-with-sim-card-inserted/td-p/332162

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-U/Xperia-U-StartUp-problem-with-sim-card-inserted/td-p/330769
