Has anyone else experienced the shattering screen phenomenon?

I know that watchdog on BBC1 has highlighted the shattering screen phenomenum with regard to the Z1, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this with regard to the Z2

Despite the phone being in my possession for only 11 days, and the screen shattering itself as I slept, I was astonished to find that the screen is not covered by the Manufacturers Warranty. I have been told I must pay £190.00 to have my phone repaired.

Having sent the phone in for repair, we have been told that this shattering was not as a result of any manufacturing fault. Despite there being no damage to any part of the outside casing, and their being unable to tell me how this shattering could have occurred. I was told "SIGNIFICANT PRESSURE" must have been applied to it.

I don't really undrerstand this, myself, and it makes me wonder just what the warranty actually does cover.

If you have experienced this phenomenon, please post a brief description of what happened to you on this string

Oh, and by the way Sony, I shall never again buy one of your products.

This has also happened to my phone. I've had it just over 3 weeks and it is now unusable. I first noticed a tiny crack in the corner but the screen was still working, then last night the screen cracked again from the sim slot to the SD slot and it won't work. I took the phone to sony after I noticed the first crack and they were worse than useless. They told me I dropped the phone, which I didn't. Then told me they didn't have the same colours as my phone so would have to have the purple frame replaced with a black one so I would have a purple and black phone and would have to pay $250 for it. Now the phone is completely unusable and I don't know what to do. This is completely unacceptable for a company like Sony. Very disappointed. Shame on you Sony.

Don't blame Sony. Blame it's customer service. I've found it horrible since the Xperia Play.

That's pretty much what happened to me. Quoted an eye watering $350 AUD to repair. I had the phone for about 10 days before the screen shattered.

I was told their policy was that if there's one crack, it will be covered by warranty, but multiple cracks and it's not.

what a joke!

I'm the same as you, will never again buy sony.

Mins has one crack across the screen from sim to SD card slot. The touch screen doesn't work al at now and they are refusing to repair it. Joke of a company. And to add insult to injury, in their repair centre they have a big spiel on the wall on how important customer service is to them. Absolute disgraceful company.

Ignoring customers concerns on their own forums too. Respond to your customers Sony.

So, any news from Sony. I have paid the princely sum of £189.00 to have my phone repaired, and it apparently has been, and even despatched, though as of today, still no sign. tracker id says no such package has entered its system.

Have you had yours returned yet?

I would gather, in all the above cases, the shattering screens are not due to user abuse. It relates to SONY's attempt at making a waterproof phone. In order to be waterproof, the phone must be airtight as well. Not giving the transistors air causes a build up within the circuit board of the phone. If you notice. all computers have vents and such, for natural air to circulate through. The same goes for televisions. Sony has not mastered the art of enclosed transistors, thus pressure build up from these enclosed transistors are cracking the screen. Proper ventilation is paramount.

Also knowing this fault, and charging as much as they do for the phone, guarantees more value to Sony, in regard to the repair of the phone. You're likely to fix a $700.00 phone rather than walk away from it.

It is simple to not honor the warranty, while citing user abuse. It is criminal to do so knowing the phone's faults.

If Sony had decided to not make it waterproof, it would likely be the best android phone on the market right now.
