Battery and heating problems

I'm having tons of issues with my phone.

Sometimes it just decides, with 50% of the battery left, that there is only 1% battery life left, and proceeds to shut down. Happens out of the blue when I'm just using my normal apps (opera browser, facebook, gmail).

Other times, it shuts down due to overheating. Again, this happens when I'm just using the internet browser or other normal apps.

Its only two years old so it really shouldn't be acting like this...Is this a problem with the battery or the OS?

Maybe it's time to do sistem repare. That will erase all data on phone, but you will get fresh start. How many apps do you have installed?

I don't have that many apps installed, as my phone says that its always full, so I've been removing apps now for a while.
