A Series Power Management

I'm new to the Vaio experience and used to have a Toshiba laptop, not as stylish but it did the job lol.

One of the gripes or problems I have is to do with the power management settings/profiler supplied with the A series and how it works.

Firstly I was wondering if the system can be made to resume from standby when opening the lid, rather than having to press a key everytime (I know, i'm lazy lol). The Toshiba resumed from standby upon opening the lid and was wondering if this could be activated in anyway on the A series.

Secondly, are there alternative power management profilers/applications available? Again, back to the Toshiba..lol..the profiler that came with the laptop allowed the user to specify what would happen when the lid is closed for EACH profile, rather than for the entire system. Is this possible with the current software, only that I can only see the option available in the Advanced tab of the Power Options panel and not within the Power Schemes tab?

I think you can do that via Control Panel > Power.

I don't think there's an option for profiling in the power control panel so if you want to do it like that it will have to be via Windows somehow. I never use profiles so I couldn't really advise.

And yes I changed mine from the lazy option to the none-lazy option :smileygrin: it's where Kee-Lo said.

I think you can do that via Control Panel > Power.

just to clarify, my A series doesnt automatically resume when I open the lid. It will suspend when the lid is closed without any intervention, but to bring it back out of suspend when the lid is opened, a key must be pressed. Opening the lid alone won;t bring it back out of resume.

Am I to assume this is normal or a problem with the power management somewhere?

Okay. That is normal it's the default. On my K-series (may be different for you) this is how you change it.

Right click on the battery/AC icon.

Click 'Adjust Power Properties.'

Click on the 'Advanced' tab in the window that just came up.

Voila, there are the settings you can change.

thanks I got that page, the major gripe i had was with the inability to create different profiles where i could specify what would happen when I closed the lid of the laptop.

Main reason for this is so that depending on what i'm using the laptop for, I could close the lid and it wont suspend and continue working but then I could also click on the power icon and change the profile to one that will suspend the laptop when the lid is closed.

Looks like i'll have to do it the long way hehe, no worries and thanks for the responses

lol, i'm aware of the power management and the profiles, its the non existant link between profiles and lid action ie: the ability select which profiles cause the system to suspend and those profiles where the system will do nothing when i close the lid.

currently i can only select what happens regardless of the profile selected.
