topic XL201 & XL301 hardware upgrade - which processors does the BIOS support? in PCs & Accessories

Hi all - what say we chew over some upgrade fundamentals...? Time for 'VAIO Experts' and 'VAIO Masters' to strut their stuff, no?

Anyone know how far you can uprade these units - I'm assuming they're dual processor only, but which Core-2-Duo models are supported in the BIOS?

PC Wizard reports;

Product :VGX-XL202
Manufacturer:   Sony Computer Corp
BIOS:           Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Mainboard:ASUSTek Computer INC. (Asus)
Product :NIACIN
Version :0.01
Support MP :Yes, 2 CPU(s)
Version MPS :1.4

Can 1066Mhz memory be used? I realise they're currently listed as 667Mhz only, but I very much doubt this is the limit and it's curently choking CPU potential.

Does anyone have a less restrictive BIOS supporting overclocking?

My unit is ticking over at 40 degress which gives ample room for improvements to be introduced, balanced against increased fan noise and increases to the passively cooled GPU core temp (currently 81 degrees)

No speculative resposes or hearsay please - only post info you know to be correct - I'm hoping to make this thread a worthwhile and productive read for all. Let's get cracking!
