Hi,

I am having a problem at the moment with my computer date. Every now and then it will change to the year 6004. I have checked for spyware and viruses and I also did an OS restore yesterday.

The date changes when my pc has been running for a long length of time. The only apps that are running are Norton Firewall, my DNS Updater, click to DVD and MSN messenger.

Anyone else seen this?

Cheers
Paul

Double click on the clock and go to the 'Internet Time' tab. Make sure that 'automatically syncrhonise with an internet time server' is ticked. That's for Windows XP, I don't recall 98 or 2k having this feature without a separate program.

Why would spyware change the date? It you are using a desktop it may be that the motherboard battery needs changing. It's easy to do, take a look inside its just a standard large watch battery style battery. Buy a new one, stick it in. Um assuming thats the problem. Not liable if it isnt.

Could be a dodgy battery, CMOS or even a dodgy real time clock. If it's the CMOS or RTC then I'm afraid you are doomed to suffer the problem until the chip is changed out.

Outside chance but try resetting the BIOS to it's default settings.
