HELP: Laptop not working?

Need desperate help.

Have a Hong Kong Sony Vaio laptop. Problem is I live in UK and can't read/speak Chinese. I tried registering / looking up my product via serial number & product code in UK Sony site but says it's from another country. If I go to Sony's Hong Kong website it's in Chinese and I can't read it.

I need help because the laptop has stopped working. It won't switch on. Two options, try to get Sony to repair it. Or just open up laptop to retrieve hard drive and transfer files via external HD caddy & USB.

Problem is, it's not obvious how to open up the laptop. I tried googling the model number and cannot find any articles/tutorials about my laptop.
