VGN-NS11j + will read cd's but not dvd's

Hi,

To provide a full view of the situation I have currently wiped the hard drive completely including the recovery partition

I am trying to install a fresh install of windows 7 onto the laptop but as mentioned above it does not recognize the DVD however it does recognize an old cd i have of Windows XP

I have tested all discs on another computer and they are working fine.

I have also tried to boot into the windows install via a usb pen drive but the laptop wont boot from that either

Although the usb does boot with ubuntu on it

Both usb install have also been tested in the boot procedure on another machine and both are working fine.

Can anyone help? Could this be caused by removing the recovery partition on the hard drive?

I have now fixed this issue

£1 CD / DVD cleaner from poundland and now the drive is working properly

So its good to note you should clean your DVD drive lense when ever you have issues reading discs
