It is not overheating then and XP is very driver stable these days.

The only other thing worth trying is to look in Start -> Control Paanel -> Administrtive Tools -> Event Viewer and look in each of the categories for errors. If there are errors they may give an indication of the cause.

The next step is probably to have the motherboard tested for poor contacts. Try ringing one of Sony's service partners who may have some ideas and can estimate the cost of an investigation.

http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/contacts/asc.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VGN-SZ3XWP_C

It could be quite a few things!

Are you doing the same thing when it happens?

Have you installed any new software?

Are you still running Windows XP?

Try downloading PC Wizard 2010 and check your CPU temperature when playing a game or a DVD - the symptoms may be caused by overheating.

http://download.cnet.com/PC-Wizard-2010/3000-2094_4-10793737.html

Intermittent faults can be difficult to remedy and could be due to a poor contact somewhere.
