Those functions are controlled by the Sony Utilities - so they shouldn't be connected - but who can tell these days!!!

As with lots of things in Vista, it is always worth doing absolutely nothing for a couple of days as these things seem to fix themselves after a couple of reboots. If this fails then you will need to download the Original Utilities Package for your model from here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-FE&m=2550

Right-click on the downloaded .ZIP file and choose "Extract All" and show extracted files.

Run the Setup.EXE in each of the following folders in order: -

1. Utils Installer 1 Sony Utilities
2. Utils Installer 2 Sony Shared Library
3. Utils Installer VAIO Event Service
4. Utils Installer Setting Utility Series

My FE41S has a pin-sharp picture ... until I rouse it from sleep mode, whereupon the text is noticeably fuzzy, and does not recover. Any fix for this?

Hi Fordwich,

Three things for you to try (you may have tried some already) -

1. Update your nVidia Video Driver to 7.15.10.9813a - available here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-FE&m=2550

2. Install the Microsoft Reliability Hotfix: -

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194

3. Install the Microsoft Performance Hotfix: -

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979

Already had the two MS patches, courtesy of automatic updating. Ran the NVidia driver update and that seems to have sorted the display issue.
Just one strange thing though - the S1 button doesn't seem to toggle between dim and bright now like it used to ... and Fn/F5 and Fn/F6 doesn't alter the screen brightness any more.

Unless I'm doing something stupid, it looks like one step forward and two steps back
