Xperia 1 ii notifications

Can anybody help me figure out how to switch from just having a notification bubble to it showing the number of notifications for each app?

I think this is related to the software update as notifications used to appear as number for apps like WhatsApp and messenger, but i believe they've changed to dots along with the updates. I tried to check on the phones' settings if there is an option to choose between numbers and dots but i couldn't find that.

Thank you. My message icon has randomly now decided to show the number of unread messages so fingers crossed they decide to update everything else to do the same!
