Feature Request – Stop Recording & Discard Clip (Custom Button Option)

Hi Sony Team, for years I’ve had this idea in mind, and I finally decided to reach out. It’s a small feature, but it would make a huge difference to my workflow.

FEATURE REQUEST

I would like the option to assign a custom function to any button in video mode that would:

• Stop the current recording

• Prompt a safety confirmation (YES / NO)

• If confirmed, discard the clip without saving it

Essentially, it would work like deleting a clip from the playback menu, but accessible instantly during recording.

REASON

I completely understand that many users would not want to risk triggering such a function accidentally. That’s why I suggest making it an optional, customizable function that users can choose to enable and assign.

I work as a sports and event videographer and often need to deliver edits immediately after an event. During competitions, I record many failed attempts or exploratory shots while waiting for the right moment. In real time, I already know some clips won’t be used. However, during live filming there’s no safe moment to manually review and delete footage, and I want to avoid the risk of accidentally removing a good take.

Having a “Stop & Discard” option with a confirmation step would save me a lot of time when sorting footage after an event and make fast edits much easier. I’m pretty sure many people working in sports and live events would appreciate this. Every time I bring it up with colleagues, they get really excited about the idea.

Thank you for considering this suggestion, and I would love to hear whether something like this could be feasible in a future firmware update.

Best regards,

Matej Kobulsky
