Issue with USB connected to TV

I have a Sony X94j Google TV with an external SSD connected to its USB port. Normally when I plug the USB in the TV automatically displays a screen saying USB drive connected with the options; view content, register for recording and set up as device storage (I don't select any of these as I use another app to view the USBs content so just press back on my TVs remote). Just recently this screen saying USB drive connected keeps popping back up about every 30 minutes or so and is becoming really annoying and it has never done this in the past.  Nothing has changed with the TV, no settings change or anything and same with the SSD. What is going on, can anyone help with this recurring USB connected screen please.

You are wrong. It's worked fine for years and on 2 other Sony TVs also. I've spoken with Sony support today and was told a format with the TV is not a necessary step and we are currently troubleshooting the issue. Have a nice day.

Im afraid to say regardless of how youre using your usb it has to be formatted by the tv, its a must, and you have the option to use it for recording tv or storing apps, but it HAS TO BE formatted, theres no way around it.

If you are using it to store videos i suggest you look into downloading and installing the likes of Universal Media Server to stream to your tv over your network, but youre ssd must be formatted to the Android system by the tv before it can be utilised properly.

I have a 120gb ssd connected to mine, formatted as a storage drive, that way big apps on android like Kodi are not hogging the tv inbuilt storage and slowing the tv down, they can all be moved to the ssd, thats how im using mine and ive got hundreds of apps and games on it., However, once formatted by the tv it then wont be recognised on the pc.

If as i said your putting movies n stuff on it and using the media player on the tv, itll work, but you wont ever get rid of the popup im afraid, you have to decide how you want to use it,, mine is storage and i use a media server to stream movies and such to the tv wirelessly.

Hope this helps.

Hi. My SSD was never formatted by the TV and has worked fine for the last 3 years as have many other USB drives that have never been formatted by the TV. So your information on that is wrong. I won't be using my network to stream. I have swapped the drive from the 3.0USB port to the 2.0USB port and it seems to have fixed the problem so maybe the TVs port has gone faulty I'll double check that with another drive later today.

Thanks for your reply.

Ok thankyou for that, dont really understand why you posted in the first place.

My INFO is not wrong but thanks, i think you will find its correct, also the Sony help website will tell you the same and so will the sony helpline, connect any USB storage device, your tv will want to format it as either storage or to record on, thats fact my friend, not wrong information, and yo stated yourself that it was nagging you to do so, this is what its meant to do, and as you said you hit the back button and use a different app to browse the files on your ssd, thats also fine and i said that too in my first post, but it wont stop the sony from nagging to format it if you connect a drive, that is NOT a broken faulty usb, the tv is doing what its designed to do, but then you could also ring Sony and report it as a fault if you think Sony are also wrong in their design, should be interesting 😂🤣.

Anyway, Thankyou for your reply, have a nice day 😉
