Hi,
I have some sony 8mm tapes recorded on my old sony camcorder ccd trv45.
I also have a digital8 sony camcorder dcr trv 110e. As i understand it, this will transfer my tapes via i link to my samsung r620 laptop computer,as there is no i link conection on my laptop computer, i purchased an i link to usb connector, (usb 2.0 a male to 4 pin firewire ieee 1394),the firewire end will not fit in the camcorder as it does not push far enough in,i do not want to push it to hard for fear of damage,so my questions are,
(is the i link a slightly different size connector to firewire) ?
(can you tell me exactly what cable i should use)?
(is it possible to have an i link socket fitted to my laptop computer)?
Please help,at 68 i am struggling to understand modern technology and would appreciate any advice.
Kind Regards
John.

Hi Simon,
Sorry for late reply, just an update for now,my son bought me a Seagate 2gb external hard drive with usb2 and usb3 option for my birthday, i am highly satisfied with it.
I am still looking into options for converting my standard 8mm tapes, the Sony i link on my camcorder dcr trv110e does not seem to work,i purchased an express card which works fine, but when i connect the Sony i link cable, which i also purchased, it seems to be a sloppy fit on my camcorder, and does not work.
I contacted a local repair shop and he no longer repairs camcorders,he told me to forget transferring them to a computer and buy a DVD recorder and transfer them to its hard drive and convert them from there to a DVD.So for the time being everything is on hold.
I am looking into purchasing the Sony rdr hxd870.
I am disappointed for now,but will try to get the i link on my camcorder checked out.
Many thanks for your help.
Kind Regards
John
Hello again joskirr86
As far as I am aware, the following cable should be compatible with your camcorder and computer:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B0000YQ3P2/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
If you have this exact cable, and the fit is 'sloppy', there may be some damage to the firewire socket on the camcorder. However, the cable in the link is generally OK for Sony camcorders, and if you have any doubts, you could try taking it somewhere like Maplin Electronics or similar. They usually have staff on hand who will double check the cable sockets for you, and advise you about the exact cable.
Thanks,
Simon
