Hi jadexodyble,
I suggest removing the memory card and the battery pack for a few minutes and re-inserting the battery only before trying to turn on the camera again.
If the camera won't turn on at all after this, I would recommend getting it inspected at the Sony centre. You can find the contact information here: www.sonypencoed.co.uk/contact
Hope this helps.

Hey, did you figure it out? The same just happened to me. It won't turn on but there's a flashing red light.
Hi KARENMORK
What you can do is leave the battery out of the camera for a while and try again, but if that doesn't work and the camera doesn't turn on, I believe you'd want it repaired at the Sony Pencoed repair centre: 01656 867347

Same issue here.
Turning on the camera will result in a dead screen and a red flashing LED under the HDMI port.
I can 'fix' this by simply removing the battery or power supply and immediately re-installing it, then all is fine for a while. Some days this happens rarely, others all the time.
I only use the a5100 for streaming / Zoom calls, so it's always mounted and in Movie mode.
Hi @Doctor7
If a simple power cycle fixes the issue, try updating the firmware as it could prove to be a glitch of some sorts:
