Morning all. I have already raised this issue once, however unfortunately it was accidentally incorrectly marked as answered by one of the Mods. My original issue is as follows:
Ever since upgrading to ICS I've had no luck using the GPS on my new Xperia P.
I've followed a lot of the guides I've found on the internet such as making sure the correct settings are set in the "Location Services" menu
From what I can tell this is a fairly common issue since the recent ICS release.
How can I get my GPS working again?
Thanks in advance.
I am creating it again in the hope I can get some more advice and hopefully solve my problem.

As i have said before and you havent followed that step . download offline google map for the area you reside in. around 70-80 mb.
After that your will get instantaneous GPS fix !!
Morning all,
It's now been two days since I first reported the issue and I'm still having the same problem.
I know this is a fairly widespread issue so I would have thought that Sony would have addressed it by now. Does anyone have any idea of when Sony will be releasing a patch to fix the issue? Or does anyone know of any other suggestions I can try without resorting to rooting my phone.
Massive apologies. I missed your original post.
I have downloaded a local copy of google maps for my immediate area, it's about 30 miles square and was 60MB download size.
Unfortunately the problem persist
[edit] and within 30 seconds of posting this reply it started working. lol I don't know why it worked but it did. Thanks!
I will explain
Phones come with A-GPS , which uses cellular data for location reporting, as compared to GPS devices, which directly use Satellite navigation as they have maps preloaded.
Since cellular connection was busy donwloading the maps part, so GPS fix was lagging, but now since the data is already in your device, cellular connection didnt have to fetch data from server .
My advice, pre-download the map of area you are going to explore , this helps in instant locaiton fix, reduced data consumption and better battery backup
