Anyone know if we will get Ice Cream sandwich for the Arc?
will it get here before 2.3.4 (or dare I ask 2.3.5/6)?

official statement: “When it comes to future platforms of the Android OS, we will make them available to consumers in a timely manner, as long as they improve the user experience and are viable from a hardware point of view.“
I hope its not the X10/1st generation Xperias all over again, when it took SE months to release 2.1 when most phone were getting 2.2 or 2.3 and they said the same thing, that the "User Experience" was the same or better than froyo
we'll have to wait and see

Only time will tell as uliwooly mentioned.
Recently, I have noticed SE has been releasing the firmware quicker than they used to.
Can only hope. :-))
yeah, you have to give SE their due.
They're moving much faster to release firmware, they were quick off the mark to allow
unlocking of the bootloaders (with the appropiate warnings about warranty etc), and then
they handed 20 phones to the FreeXperia team, in order to let them get a working build
of CyanogenMod sorted out.
In my opinion, that makes them one of the better handset manufacturers at the moment.
In the light of SE having their own financial challenges in the sense that for the past decade or so, they have only turned a profit possibly only 2 or 3 times and only a slim profit.
Hence they need to be very smart and careful how much money to invest in R&D and the types of handsets. Actually SE has quite a number of different handsets to suit different price points and different types of users.
I think from that point of view they should be commended.
still not a date
Great News from Sony Ericsson. Actually the updates have been coming regularly compared to other OEMs. But I guess they are trying to make up for the X10 debacle from last year. In any case thanks a lot to SE.
However ...
, However ... They need to synchronise their codebase with ICS in any case so that the current prototypes now can also be launched with ICS in the near future. Since I don't see a reason that the prototypes would be running a SW which is totally branched out from the current Xperia Codebase it should be relatively easy to port it to the current line up as well. Not suggesting that it is a trivial task but just the fact that they are giving ICS to 2011 Line up is reason enough to appreciate SE. Thanks a lot and we are not ungrateful ... I mean we are really grateful and happy.
@Uli, Regarding the dates, I would hazard a guess: Just about the same time as the availability of SE's newly announced Handsets from MWC or CES. Current prototypes share same codebase with 2011 Lineup. So when 2012 Lineup from MWC/CES are ready it means 2011 Lineup is also ready to get the ICS. So that would mean somewhere around Feb 2012 at the earliest. Surprise us SE.. Go ahead. Won't you??:smileysilly:
