esupport/battery question

hi, i'm having a problem registering for esupport, it keeps on saying my email is not on the database, yet it is still the email i have used for club vaio...

the question i wanted to ask is regarding the S series battery life. It is quoted at about 5hrs max usage however on powering up with a full charge it only says 3 hours and in reality I am only getting about 1.5 hours usage doing normal internet browsing/mail tasks. Is this normal...it seems wrong.

Max usage = if you are doing nothing at all using minimum power. Actual usage is a lot less depending on what you are doing. If you are using wireless when you're browsing the internet that will take the battery down a fair bit. Watching DVD's is worse, having the screen bright etc etc it all adds up.

Anything that uses a device in the notebook uses a lot of power (ie DVD with it's motor)

I could be shot down in flames over this but I was under the impression that batteries are not even included in the warranty.

As has already been said quoted battery life is always very optimistic and measured under "perfect" conditions.

Ask anyone with laptops with P4 desktop processors:smileycry:

Only under warranty for 90 days.

I think Sony have a 90 day warranty on batteries. Max battery life is normally a lot higher than you would get under normal usage.

thanks guys, i'm starting to feel a lot better. do you think it's worth having this checked out though? i am using wifi constantly but other than that it's normal browsing/typing usage at 1.5 hours seem pretty shoddy.

Other than that, i'm very happy i made it a sony

FYI I have a number of emails from Sony using my Registered email, I have gone into my profile and re-entered it, and yet (as with you) it refuses to acknowledge that it exists. Sony machines are good, their support is worse than terrible,

Hey it's common enough for me to make an FAQ in my signature. Not that many people seem to read it before asking  .

1 and a half hours is a little poor, I'm sure you could squeeze out another half and hour. I missed what computer you have, but if it's a desktop replacement then you aren't going to do better. Laptops with powerful chips use a lot of power. If it is a portable laptop rather than a desktop replacement it does seem poor performance.
