Hi. I hope someone can offer advice.
I recently clean reinstalled Vista on my VAIO VGN-FE31Z ahead of a Windows 7 update install (I had to do an update rather than a clean install of Windows 7 so that I could keep my programs). As part of the Vista install (using a Sony upgrade disk) I updated the BIOS (as per the instructions provided by Sony).
I noticed that I could not enter the product key at first for Windows 7 when it came to it because the 'k' key on my keyboard stuck. But it was eventually possible to enter it. I didn't worry about this for long.
But once Windows 7 was up and running, I noticed that, in fact, the laptop keyboard was giving me real problems. Specifically, the k, a, s, b and . keys - as well as the down arrow - were not working. So I uninstalled the keyboard driver from device manager and restarted Windows. Windows duly found and installed the 'new' keyboard, but the problem remained.
I then booted up XP (I was Vista/XP dual boot) and discovered that the same problem occurred, although the laptop keyboard driver was a different version.
So I entered the BIOS and discovered that the down arrow was not working there either. So it looks as though the keyboard does not function correctly at any point. (I am currently using a USB keyboard which works without any problems whatsoever.)
Can anyone help? The BIOS I am now running is R0172J3. I am wondering whether in fact it is the BIOS update that has caused the problem. Perhaps I should revert to the original BIOS version - though I have no idea what version that was. Or how to reinstall it!
Thanks for any advice.
