Loss of use of CD/DVD Drive

I have a Sony VA10 (PCG-2J1M) desktop which I purchases in 2009 and after a recent hacking in I lost the use of my  CD/DVD drive. For example,  I am unable record anything on to a CD or see anything on a prerecorded CD.

Can you please help me to restore this function. Many thanks.

Hi natuparmar.

You are quoting an invalid Vaio model - you are probably using the chassis model which can be shared by several Vaio models.  You probably have a VGC-JS2E.

Are you using the original Operating System?  Does it recognise DVDs?

Check in Device Manager to see if there is a yellow ! Warning against DVD/CD-ROM Drive.  If yes, let us know the Error Code and someone may be able to help.
