low volume output

just received my sony vaio fe41s. the volume output is very very low - impossible to listen to cd or watch dvd or hear other skype user. what can i do as it is up at max volume. please advise this novice.

Hi recherche and welcome to Club Vaio,

Have you tried increasing the volume in the BIOS? If you tap F2 repeatedly when you start up your Vaio you should be taken to the BIOS screen. You will probably find the Volume is set to 4 - try increasing this to the maximum (8 I think) Save and Exit the BIOS.
