Sound Issues with RS504

Hi there,

I have recently upgraded from an RX1 to a RS504. Everything has been great apart from sound troubles that I have been having with my new machine. What happens is that every now and then all sounds stop from the PC. I can usually boot up fine getting the windows startup however over the course of an hour or so all sounds stop. Nothing from CDs (although I still see the visualisations), system sounds in control panel etc (nothing is muted have checked this though control panel).

When I shut down the PC I sometimes get windows shutdown sound. I've phoned tech support who don't know what the problem is. I've even reformated and reinstalled the software to factory spec thinking that there could be conflicts with my printer/scanmner but I still have the problem. I have the latest drivers and the tech support of where I brought the PC from haven't been hugely helpful either. They said that it was probably an issue with the motherboard but could not tell me when they could get hold of a replacement. I've only had the PC 2 weeks and am currently at wits end.

Can anyone help or should I return the PC back to the shop.:smileycry:

Sorry for a long posting!!
Adam

If it's only 2 weeks old then demand a full replacement - don't let them fob you off with a replacement motherboard.

It's pretty simple - they sold you something that doesn't work, it presumably cost a lot of money - replacement or refund.

If you're not comfortable with arguing the case a phone call to your local consumer advice office should advise you of your consumer rights and what the critical arguments are (reading between the lines the retailer may try to string you along with various excuses of repair/delays/etc).

yeah if i were you take it to the shop get them to actually see the problem and then get them to give you a new one rigth there and then

thats if you bought it from a shop and not online.

Just stopping after an hour seems somewhat odd, there is usually a trigger for time-related problems. Are you sure there is nothing you are running around the same time that may be causing it? Your idea of a hardware conflict sounds sensible but you tried that already. Showing someone in a shop may prove difficult if it only starts after an hour, in which case they may want to send it to Sony to check out the problem in which case good luck with that. Otherwise whereas you probably no longer can demand a refund, you are entitled to a replacement.

I also would ask for a replacement rather than a new motherboard.

Thanks for the advice guys

Part of me was hoping that I didn't have to take it back and that it would be just some little tweak that might have fixed it.

Oh well!!
Thanks once again
