Upgrade SSD on VPCZ1 series

Hi all

I have 128gb ssd drive installed on my z series. I need to upgrade it to 256 gb ssd drive.

I cannot see on the back of Z series what screws I need to remove to get to the SSD. I also dont know what kind of form factor will it take. Would I need any special software to clone the SSD or backup from windows 7 would do the job?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Adi

Hi Adi and welcome.

Unfortunately, Sony do not use standard SSDs in the VPCZ Series Vaios. The form factor means that you can only replace the SSD with another Sony sourced SSD.  I am not sure you can buy a larger SSD for your model - you will have to Google for one.  I've had a quick look and the only one I can see is not bigger and ships from somewhere in deepest China: -

I can find a much larger one on the same website but this has a connector for the VPCZ2 Vaios only.

Some users take out the optical drive so they can put a commercially available SSD inside and others have taken the SSD out of its casing so it will fit but these are big, risky modifications.

Added to that, you have to take the whole Vaio apart to get at the SSD.

Do your research before deciding!

Perhaps someone else has done this and can help source a suitable SSD?
