Hey guys so i purchased a Sony Vaio VGN-N31S like 2 years ago, it came with windows vista, i downgraded it to windows XP, and then found out theres no drivers for my model which support xp
so a helpful guy from the clubvaio fourms told me
Unfortunately Sony do not support XP on your model - so there are no dedicated XP Drivers available.
However, all is not lost - the VGN-N11S has a similar specification to your model (you just have a faster processor) so the Original XP Drivers and the Original XP Utilities should work OK with your VGN-N31S.
so yh it worked, now windows 7 is out and i would like to get it, now im guessing im going to get the driver problem again?
could somebody please tell me what i could do, i want windows 7!!!
Hi Uzzie,
You will need to buy a Windows 7 Upgrade Disc (Home Premium costs about £70).
You can either: -
1. Carry out a clean install from XP to Windows 7 using the Vista Drivers and Utilities originally designed for your model. This reformats your hard drive. You may have to search for some Windows 7 specific drivers and some things may not work without some further work.
2. Carry out a System Recovery using Recovery Discs or the Recovery Partition to reinstall Vista and put your Vaio back to its factory state. Update Vista from Microsoft Update and then carry out an Upgrade In-Place to Windows 7. This will use the drivers and utilities already installed and will also reinstall your preinstalled Sony Software Applications.
I suppose it will depend on if you want the Sony software (use 2) or if you want to change to 64-bit (use 1). You use the same Upgrade Disc whichever you choose.

sooo my original drivers will work for windows 7, i wont get problems like
'the drivers are not compatible for this operating system'
