was sold different laptop model than what is on my receipt

Hi,
I bought last monday 26th Sony NW20SF laptop from Sony Store.
Yesterday i had voicemail from the store and today after calling the sales person
back i understand that he has given me NW20ZF instead.
The sales person is saying that I need to give this laptop back.
I have fully personalised it, installed most of the s/ws i needed to.
He is offering taking it tomm and giving it back day after , and ensuing he restores it back to my settings with s/w.
I dont think it sounds right to give him all my data, photos etc.

If it is stores mistake shouldnt they sort it within store.
Please share if any of you faced this and how did you resolve.

If it was same day or next with not much done, i would have entertained,
But after a weeks installation etc. I dont want to take chance or even waste my time.

Thanks,
simhita
Does anybody have idea , how to deal with this

They Gave you a better laptop, well only difference between the two is the ZF can play blurays and has a better graphics card! I Would keep it not my fault! If they gave you a lower spec model, they probaly wouldnt haved called you.

Hi simhita,

welcome to Club VAIO..

Difficult one, it would depend on how now knowing that the salesperson wrongly gave you a more expensive Vaio would play on your conscience, also if you don't return the vaio would this salesperson loose his job??

How would you feel if you had purchased a NW20SF after a week personalising the settings, installing applications you realised that you had in fact got a lower spec NW20EF and the store said that it wasn't prepared to exchange it now as it had been used for a week and had your data on the HDD.?

It appears that the difference in price between the NW20SF and the NW20ZF is around £50.

If I had spent a week of my time personalising the settings, installing applications and uploading my photo's and data onto your Vaio, I would want to erase all the data before I returned the Vaio to the store as I would want to leave my data on the HDD and wonder if the store had removed it properly. Therefore I would be asking for some form of goodwill gesture from the store to wipe the HDD then return my VAIO to store, exchange the product and then return home and spend the next week re-installing the application, personalising and uploading my data again.

Depending on the stores response to the goodwill gesture and what they offer, you may want to consider paying the difference to keep the NW20ZF.

Alternatively the store could arrange for someone to come to your house erase the NW20ZF HDD and at the same time install your application, personalise and upload your data to the NW20SF. But I guess this would cost more than the difference in price from the Vaio model you purchased to the one your were supplied.

Let us know your decision though please.
