Would really appreciate if anyone has any ideas how to solve this.
My VAIO is running WIndows 7 (64-bit).
Wireless was working ok but had an issue to do with DNS (I won't go into it unless anyone is interested - it's not important).
To try to resolve the issue, on advice of one of the IT staff, I downloaded the drivers from the Sony site for the Wireless device (Atheros AR2985 v8.0.0.238). I uninstalled the drivers on the PC and re-installed the new ones.
Wireless is now not working. Disaster.
If I turn off wireless via the switch and back on, the laptop sees the wireless LAN as displayed by the Vaio Smart Network Window which pops up. On this window, the wireless Off/On switch is in the off position and we are in state disconnected. Clicking nothing has no effect. Clicking the connect button states that no networks are available.
If I go to Control Panel->Network and Internet->Manage Wireless Networks
Adapter Properties has the correct device and clicking the driver details shows the driver version I was expecting. There are no networks listed. Trying to Add one gives "Unexpected error occurred" and I can do no more.
Going to Control Panel->Network and Internet->Network Connections
shows the ethernet and the wireless.
Right clicking on wireless shows we are enabled. If I click connect, it brings up the box saying no network connections are available. Right Clicking on wireless again shows we are sending but receiving nothing.
Just can't see any wireless networks even though there is one.
I tried a restore from the recovery disk of the wireless driver. No difference.
To me, it looks like windows is seeing the wireless device, but the software/driver isn't working.
This is driving me mad. So any pointers gratefully received.
What is stopping the wireless going to the "On" position in the Sony Vaio network panel?
Thanks
Peter
