Group contacts and text messaging

After the update to android 7 group contacts are not shown in contacts. You favourites  and all are the only fields shown, but no groups? All my grouped contacts still have the group assigned but there's no way I can see to display the group?

Likewise you can no longer select a group to send a message to under the standard Sony messaging app.

Any ides?

I solved the problem with using the texting app called Textra once downloaded make it your default messanger & this will show you your groups if you want to send a group text.

I AM VERY ANNOYED THAT THIS FUNCTIONALITY HAS BEEN REMOVED WITHOUT NOTICE!

Having used this on several Android Phones extensively in the past I feel deeply disappointed. Just to give the picture: I have around 1000  contacts (mostly business) and around 50 contact groups (mostly companies)!

What does SONY think their phones are used for? Toddlers??

The german support page for this procduct is not helpful at all, since it has only one entry!

It seems SONY does not care about the user, once he has bought the product.
My next brand will be Huawei and I will most likely not fare worse by service but definitely better at #price.
If I pay premium prices I want premium service!!

ist mostly irrelevant because they focus on integrating the stuff from different networks and not on the group feature.

Out of this list:

Simpler Contacts seemed relevant but it is not since it does only supports groups entered _manually_ into _Simpler Contacts_! This is a joke, nobody guarantees that this will be compatible to other apps or preserved in the future. I keep my hands from such ninnyhammers.

AddAppt does what it should, well sort of.
Unfortunately it insists on looking up Google groups as well so I had to remove those dummies by hand afterwards.
And it does not know the feature "display family name first" which is very useful in europe....

Nevertheless I will stay with that.

So SONY was a total dissappointment and this user group is also rather an excuse for support.

Glad it's not just me! I use this function Daily for texting parents of our Swim School doing it individually will take ages!! Such a stupid thing to have got rid off - hope they manage. To get it back ASAP!

SONY sms app with groups on Android 6 works perfect. Why SONY changed it for Android 7 killing sms groups?????

How do weekend send a message for a groft? SMS message

Same problem on X Compact with vanished option to display/access groups. Really frustrating to lose that option. I'll need to replace the app - that is important functionality. Not cool.
