I bought a Sony Xperia XZ1 Dual SIM TD-LTE G8342 yesterday and traveled to China for work today.
Using China mobile I get not internet connection, but when I switch back to my old phone Htc one M9 the both 3g, 4g networks works fine.
Did some checking ( https://www.frequencycheck.com/carrier-compatibility/deX8T3/sony-xperia-xz1-dual-sim-td-lte-g8342-so... )
4G is 100% covered, but i still can't gain connection using xz1, even tried switching between the dual SIM slots. Not working.
Does anyone know what the issue is?
Note the disclaimer at the bottom...
"* A matching frequency band does not guarantee coverage. There may be additional network or device software restrictions that prevent a device from connecting on a certain frequency. Additionally, certain bands may only be available regionally within a country"
Even if the phone is capable of connecting to a certain network, that doesn't mean the network allows the phone to connect. It is possible that even though the phone could work with China Mobile, but Sony never had it certified and approved on their network? Just a guess, based on similar issues in the States with Sony phones the last couple years.
I am experiencing the same problem here in Shenzhen (China).
I went to Hong Kong yesterday to buy the same model. The funny part is that the internet doesn't work on LTE, 3G or WiFi either. BUT, when I turn ON VPN, the phone works normally - on the same networks that didn't work a moment ago.
So, it seems the issue is Sony's software that heavily relies on Google Services, as it can't work at all if without Google servers. And as we know, Google is censored in China.
Is there any work around it?
