Hi,
how can I manually decide wich wifi frequency range (of a dual band router of cause) to use with my z5c?
I know that there was an option for this on older Sony smarphones.
The reason why I want to do this, is that we have a bunch of 2,4GHz wifi's in our house that disturb each other. But I need 2,4GHz activated for other devices. So I want to force my z5c to use 5GHz even if 2,4GHz seem to have the stronger signal.
Cheers

I'm afraid we don't have any option for this but it's something that we have forwarded as feedback internally.
Currently, you would need to setup a separate SSID for 5Ghz.
If your AP doesn't support this you could perhaps try band steering instead which it seems to support: https://docs.meraki.com/display/MR/Band+Selection+and+Band+Steering
Hi Evilamblonyx,
Welcome to the community,
If you have a 2.4ghz network and a 5ghz network, then the 5ghz network will have its own SSID, so you would see this in the Wifi list, simply find the 5ghz network and connect to it. You may need to find out what the SSID is for the 5ghz, that can be done by accessing the routers settings directly.

Hi,
There is differents interms of 2.4ghz VS 5ghz Wi-Fi frequency. To make it short. 2.4Ghz frequency will have a wider coverage range, but the down side is altho you can go further the speed also will be reduce as the signal goes lower.
As for 5ghz frequency, the coverage range is shorter as compared to the 2.4ghz and ofcause your internet speed is also much faster.
Aside from the points above mentioned, you can also find our more by the link below.
Hope this helps to answer some of your question.
Regards.
No, the 5 GHz wifi don't have it's own SSID. The ap (Cisco Meraki Z1) don't even offer this option. And it wouldn't be reasonable in my opinion, because some clients are able to choos the frequency that seems to be best at the moment. I allso have some old clients that only support 2,4GHz and i want them to be on the same SSID as all the others.
So it's up to the client's (Smartphone, PC, ect.) to choose wich one to use (or use both).
The issue is, that the 5GHz allways seems to have the weaker signal, because it is affected much more by walls ect. So most devices (as my z5c) will choose the 2,4GHz. But in my area are so many 2,4GHz wifi's, that there are a lot of radio disturbances on all channels. Because of this, the speed on 5GHz is much better, even when the signal is weaker.
So i basically want to force my z5c to use the 5GHz, even if 2,4GHz is avalible (and seems to be stronger), and only use 2,4GHz if the 5GHz connection get's lost.
I hope my explenation is understandable.
Cheers

Thank you for your answer.
I will try to fix this with Band Steering for now, but would be happy to have the option in the future on m z5c.

Here is a work around. If you NEVER want your phone (doesn't matter what model) to use 2.4 GHz, have the Wifi client Forget the connection. When connected to the 2.4 GHz SSID go to Settings --> WiFi. Click on the 2.4 Network....the Properties dialog will come up with all of the 2.4 GHz connection information. Choose FORGET. This way your phone will only autoconnect to the 5 GHz band.
I have a similar issue, but I just need to keep my local devices on the same SSID for sync purposes
Thank you for this workarround, I'll give it a try.
