HELP!! Z5 Ear proximity sensor malfunction

I'm having a major issue with the proximity sensor on my Sony Xperia Z5. Unlike the forum topics I've been reading, I don't have a screen protector and I've cleared my phone of dust! I've been having this issue for some months now. At first, the screen would go black during a call on the odd occasion, now it happens every time I make an outgoing call and whenever I have an incoming call.

The second I make a call, the screen goes black and does not allow me to do anything with the phone.  I have to continuously push the power button with one finger and attempt to press the phone to end the call with my other finger. The screen goes on and off rapidly and it's almost like a game of chance. Sometimes it works, sometimes the phone goes to the person's voicemail (if they don't pick up) which leaves them with a long voicemail from me. For whatever reason, the only way I am able to make a call without the screen going black is when my ear phones are plugged it. Does anyone know why that is?

I've tried the diagnostic tool on this phone, and there's obviously an fault with the ear proximity sensor. I've tried forcing the phone to restart, factory reset AND the phone is already on the latest software.

Is there any way of deactivating it? If not, why has Sony decided not to give this option to its customers?  Does Sony have an alternative fix to this proximity sensor issue (which a lot if people have) that doesn't involve expensive repair costs?

I honestly don't want this proximity sensor on my phone anymore, it's caused me nothing but grief!

Someone please reply with some advice.

Hi, did you ever fix this issue? I have the same problem but can find a decent solution.

I also have the same problem and it seems it is across all Sony phones

All of the answers so far within the forum are replies as to how to get the sensor working.

That is not my question.

How do you disable the proximity sensor?

Testing my sensor shows it is not working although the light sensor is.

I need to be able to disable the proximity sensor so that I can make phone calls. So many calls you make nowadays you need to go through a keypad to define an answer Press1 to ..., press 2 for this ...., press 3 for that... etc.

My phone an Xperia Z5 is working perfectly apart from this proximity sensor. When I make a call the screen immediately goes black and the only way to get out of a call is to pull the SIM out and force a reboot. The power switch will not turn off the phone or cut the call or turn the screen on.

So what if it is a hardware sensor? This must interact with the software to tell the software to turn the screen off. I need to be able to disable it or the phone is useless.
