Hi there
Bought an Xperia Z about a month ago. Had slight lag issues but nothing too serious.
My phone ran down and the battery died two days ago. I put it on the charge (its been on the charge pretty much ever since) with the red LED lit up. LED turns off completely when unplugged.
Phone will not turn on at all; have tried all of the manual resets (holding power button and volume button etc); have read these forums and searched the web for a solution to no avail. PC doesn't recognise the phone so can't reset it via PC Companion. Basically, I have an $800 unresponsive brick.
Very very disappointed to say the least. Phone was very well looked after, and to have it die simply because the battery ran down is extremely worrying. I've seen that this issue is very common yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive fix for it whatsoever.
Any help that anyone can give me would be really appreciated
Please try following these specific steps to run a repair. It will be connecting to the PC in a different way than normal so should still work:
1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

Hi Sam
As I mentioned above, I've followed these steps already anbd my PC does not recognise my phone.
I get to the stage where it tells me how to connect to the PC but nothing from there. The only thing that happens is a red LED lights up when it is plugged in.
Are there any other ways I can reset my phone?
Its simply a piece of crap inside with polished outside. More pathetic is their customer support and service centers.

Hi Fundars and Sam,
Fundars - I am having exactly the same problem with my Xperia Z and recieved exactly the same advice as Sam provided.
And, of course, I had exactly the same experience as you - where I followed the steps and my PC doesn't recognise my phone. It also has a red light when it's plugged in.
It has been charging all day but is completely unresponsive. Some forums suggest that when I hold down the power button and the volume up button that the phone vibrates, however mine does not, the red light just flashes.
When I press the power button for about three seconds the red light flashes three times.
This began immediately when I installed the latest software update onto the phone yesterday.
I look forward to a solution.
Regards,
Alison
I'm having the exact same problem, And in this day and age its not uncommon to only have a cell phone and no homephone and on that cellphone have all your info and only means of contacting anybody to fix my f***ing phone!!!!
Firstly, please ensure that you leave the handset on charge for a good hour or so to ensure it has charge, then when you get to the connection step please ensure you are holding the volume down button after you have connected the handset or the drivers wont install for the flash device.

howdy - just to let anyone who looks at this know, i called sony again today (thank goodness for skype) and explained that the problem was persisting and now they are arranging for me to post the phone to their repair centre. so. not looking like there are any self-fixes for this problem. cheers.
Hi Sam
As I mentioned, the phone was on the charge for almost a full 48 hours, so there shouldnt be any issues there.
I followed all the steps (including holding down the volume down button) already, again as I've already pointed out.
Basically it has gotten to the stage where I have taken my phone back to the retailer in an effort to at least get a replacement phone. but in light of all this, I would much rather a refund, given the chances that it will likely happen again
i think sony are having issues with there charging cables.......mine was flashing and not charging put husbands charger cable and mine in was doing nothing.
put samsung galkaxy cable in which i found worked on the sony S. phone started charging straight away and it fits into the socket better i always worry that im gunna damage bit inside as i have crank it in to get it to charge. I would advice getting a cheap galaxy charger and see if it works for you.
