Can't get 1920x1080 resolution on my external AOC monitor

I have a Vaio VPCEB4X0E laptop with ATI Radeon graphics and 1920x1080 LCD display. Works beautifully.

When I connect my AOC e2243Fw external monitor, which supports 1920x1080 resolution, the Vaio does not recognise it as such and treats it as 'Generic Non-PnP Monitor.

The monitor works OK, but I can't get it to display 1920x1080.

When I try to change the resolution in Control Panel (Win 7), The highest resolution on the pull-down is 1600x1200, which the monitor will not display. The next option in the list is1440x900 - works, but way too low.

I know that the Vaio will drive an external monitor at 1920x1080 because I have another monitor that works fine. Just seems to be a problem using this monitor. Similarly, this monitor will display 1920x1080 on my other Win 7 PC, which has Nvidia Graphics.

I am running teh latest drivers from Vaio Update and fully up to date with Windows Update.

Can anyone suggest how to fix this?
