Actually I don't think it's entirely down to people's buying habits alone, it could be many reasons such as support infrastructure, supply chain, and of course, user uptake can play a part.
But to specify that Sony pulled out of the Indian market solely based on the opinion that Indian users only buy cheap Chinese brands is not only incorrect, but can be pretty insulting to the many Indian users who frequent these forums. From my own experience, users of Sony mobiles in India are quite common here and would probably be a high % of user base nationality.
Worth considering, that the UAE have also seen a reduction in Sony mobile presence, and people there generally don't buy cheap.
Many possible reasons that none of us will fully know.
