Let's talk about the screen

From day 1 I thought going 21:9 was a great move on so many levels, but after using it today it's even better than I thought...

19.5:9 screens are kind of half way between being useful as taller screens and not conforming to standards. If you're not going to do 16:9 and use the most established ratio in any industry, now I feel like 21:9 is the way to go.

On the XZ3 I though split screen was a cute thing, that sometimes can be useful, but most of the time it just wasn't great. There was always some screen real estate missing when watching a YouTube video and messaging, but with this screen omg, it's perfect.

It fits a YouTube video in 16:9, messages and the keyboard comfortably on the same screen...

Websites or any lists or scrolling through the UI are so much better and easier...

And the colours... Wow. Perfect. The first screen that I really consider to be perfect. The XZ3 had arguably the best screen on the market, but looking at them side by side, it was still a bit too cold looking in Standard mode. This thing is spot on.

I'll look into the black clipping that someone mentioned on the forum though and will get back with findings.

I've found black clipping to be very minimal, much less so than other oled screens, banding also is there with low brightness gradations, but is very much less than others.

It's a good display, really good

Probably the best display that Samsung ever made Slightly_smiling_Face

They would never let Sony use this if they thought of them as serious competition lol

Screens were always number one thing when I look at phones and I'm so happy to look at this flawless thing Slightly_smiling_Face

I could never get something with a notch or a hole in it, way too OCD for that nonsense. They could be giving me an S10 for free and I would never consider using it. What happened to the good old times when you'd return the phone for having dead pixels lol

I checked the black clipping,it's on par with the XZ3, if not better and colours are more natural at low brightness. It's just recent content that has been pushing into the HDR luma in shadows and highlights. I don't like it, but it's here to stay...

It's not a Samsung display.

Samsung produce Amoled displays, this is P-oled.

Hm... I saw in a couple of places Samsung displays mentioned, and no indication of anyone else...

Who made the display then? LG?

Not a clue, but I know it's P-oled so therefore not Samsung (like many places reporting)

Whoever it is have done well, very, very well.

Better than my bravia TV. Probably Sony or jdi I've heard 2 of the cameras are Samsung

For now all the high end oled displays that Sony uses were LG, would be great if JDI managed to achieve this.

Do we know if this runs at 4K at all times? Like on menu, app drawer etc?
