Sony FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G Lens / SELP1635G keeps flaring and won't focus?

I've a new FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G Lens which keep flaring and wont focus or constant refocusses. Any advice gratefully accepted. My other Sony 24 - 105 F4 seems to work fine so I'm assuming its the new 16-35 lens and not the camera body.

In which situation?

It happens when I press the (back button) focus or shutter button.

and what you mean with “flaring” about the lens?

The image is blurred (and won't focus) and goes bright white / over exposed and then really dark (under exposed) in a few seconds as if the lens is ranging through the aperture / iris range. Some times it settles down and then resets itself and begins to focus and expose as per the settings I've dialled in but at other times it just won't focus etc. I've tried removing the lens and refixing it back on the lens mount and on occasions this works but doesn't at other times. The lens is 6 months old, in excellent condition, little use and the mount and lens appear as new / clean and unmarked. When I remove the FE PZ 16-35mm and replace it with my Sony 24-105 F4 G Lens this doesn't occur so I'm pretty sure it's the lens.

Not sure to understand what you mean. I don’t know if you can share a pic or a clip of what you’re saying.

If you dubit about the lens functionality in warranty period, I suggest to return back for replacement/repair before the warranty expires

@LeeWhitworth This link contains all compatible cameras to the SELP1635G, make sure your camera is one of them: https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/cscs/accessories/?mdl=SELP1635G&area=gwt&lang=en_GB If it is, try the steps under "Focusing" section here: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/5036/61ba641607cd48e5e05252727f933986/50365080M...

Thank yo for your message. The lens is on a new Sony A7CR, which is on the list and I am following the guidance on focussing. i have notched that the issue has arisen when I am taking photos about and about and the temperature is  between 0 and 3 degrees Celsius. Is this out of the operating temperature range of the lens?

Please share pic for example.

In cold enviroment you must be care as with all the lens. Expecially when the lens is cold and you enter in a warm ambient. Internal and external lens could be covered by dew
