Sony Bravia switch on problem

I have a Sony Bravia TV and I have a problem switching it on. I will switch off at night using the remote control but the TV will not switch back on again the next day unless I unplug from the mains and plug it straight back in again. I can then switch it back on using the remote. It is the same using the remote or the on/off button on the TV. It doesn't do this all the time it will sometimes switch back on using the remote without unplugging but will start as if it has been switched off completely and not restarting from standby.

If you have a USB dongle, try taking it out before switching the TV to standby.  Works for some but not everybody.  I switched from RF to Bluetooth mouse for this reason.

Yes, this has started happening to me since I plugged a USB HDD into one of the USB drives. The indicator light on the TV comes on and seems to respond to button presses, but the picture and sound just does not come on. The only solution at the moment is to unplug the HDD when not using it, or switch the TV off at the wall.
