CX 410 and cx 740

Hello, could you indicate me the fundamental diférences between the camera CX 410 and the CX 740, except for the price of course.

In what case 740 is preferable in 410?

Thank you in advance

Hello ponponrtl - Welcome to the Sony Forums

There are many similarities between the two cameras - both of them give excellent video quality results. I have been reading the specifications here:

CX410

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/cam-high-definition-on-memory-stick/hdr-cx410ve/technical-specificatio...

CX740

http://www.digitalversus.com/camcorder/sony-hdr-cx740-p13074/test.html

Both of them have Balanced Optical Steadyshot which gives steadier shots when zoomed in, and the only major difference of note is the megapixel rate. The CX410 offers 8.9 megapixels, while the CX740 offers 24.1 megapixels - however this may not be as noticeable as you may think. This may be a difference that you can only notice while viewing videos on a very large screen, and you may find that the picture quality offered by 8.9 megapixels is more than acceptable.

Thanks,

Simon

A quick comparison showing key differences (hopefully all correct)

HDR-CX740 benefit compared to CX410:

  • build in memory: 32GB
  • viewfinder
  • larger sensor: 1/2,9 inch compared to 1/3,91 inch
  • manual aperture and shutter speed setting
  • infrared (nightshot)
  • Peaking
  • Expanded Focus
  • zebra
  • high resolution LCD
  • build in flash

HDR-CX410 benefit compared to CX740:

  • 30x zoom (compared to 10x)
  • smaller and lighter
  • price

from a video quality point of view the difference will not be that big but the CX740 clearly has the edge in terms of manual features. A viewfinder is also important when shooting a lot outddors in bright light and also the LCD has much higher resolution.

Both share the excellent and unique Balanced Optical Steady Shot which is undoubtly the best on the market but the CX410 has a longer zoom range which is the main benefit, besides the price.

you mean BUILT in memory, not "Build"

It's fairly obvious that OP is not aware of these benefits and I find Sony somewhat underselling their products.

It would be useful to know what OP wants the camcorder for - since he's wavering between a significant price-difference.

You say the CX740 better for manual focus, yet CX410 claims to have Manual Focus - so this might need expanding further to be sure OP chooses the model most-suited. I have the CX410 as the 740 appeared to be out of production - has it come back? It's not listed by Amazon....I thought all the new camcorders in that price-range sported Projectors? ( Something I'd rather leave off, along with GPS,), - but I'd like WiFi, yet have to buy that as an ugly accessory, which stops the camcorder fitting the case..

On the face of it, this Sony interactive site is pretty good, with Text facilities absent in Vegas Movie Studio.

More power to yr elbow.

ThanksH

The camcorder HDR-CX740 has better lens (Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T*), optical viewfinder (very important in sunlight), remote control (very nice to have when using tripod), better sensor/sensitivity/ (6.3 mm 1/2.88 type CMOS Sensor against 4.6 mm  1/3.91 type CMOS Sensor)
