I have a new Sony HDR-CX410 handycam and have purchased the external microphone ECM-CG50 specifically for it. It is the high quality microphone I want and the compatibility list for the ECM-CG50 microphone specifies the HDR-CX410 camcorder as being compatible.
However it seems it is not compatible. The microphone holder that came with the ECM-CG50 does not fit in the accessory shoe on the camcorder, and neither does the adapter that came with the microphone.
How can I attach this microphone to sit securely on top of the camcorder? Or are they just not compatible at all...?
Solved! Go to Solution.
You should be able to mount the ECM-CG50 directly on the Multi Interface Shoe of the camcorder.
The supplied adapter is needed for mounting it on an Alpha camera with iISO shoe (Auto Lock Accessory Shoe).
You connect the cable form the microphone to the MIC in opn the left side of the camcorder.

Hello,
I have the same problem attaching the microphone to the camera. Could you please give a more detailed instruction or video how to attach the mic to the camera?
I've just purchased the CG50 mike for my cx410 and have the same problem.
Even without the adapter, it wont attach to the hotshoe
I asked Sony if the ADP-MAA adapter would make the CG50 work with the CX410, they replied saying
"In response to your query, ADP-MAA is compatible with the following cameras and accessories:
ECM-CG50 is fully compatible with HDR-CX410VE and there is no need for an additional adapter or shoe."
I replied saying that I didn't think it was compatible, and sent a youtube video showing me not being able to connect the mike to the camcorder:
I ordered the JJC MSA 2 adapter off ebay, but that didn't work either.
I then tried cutting a bit off the bottom of the microphone, and that seemed to do the trick. Not really ideal, and will probably invalidate any warrenty, but if nothing else works
I have exactly the same issue with an FDR-AX100 trying to attach a ECM-CG50 shotgun mike.
The hot shoe on top of the camera is recessed and there is insufficient room around it within the recess to allow one to physically mount the mike.
Hi
Where does it say the ECM-CG50 microphone is compatiblw wth these cameras ?
I can find no reference that says it is compatible ?
Looking at the mic mount it is for standard hotshoe as fitted to some Videcams and digital SLRs and the Sony Multi Interface shoe as shown here.
Your cameras have the Active Shoe Interface which is different from the MI shoe.

Hello guys,
I hope this gives an answer, I have the same problem.
Been looking up on it & found this:
Its called the "Sony Multi-Interface Shoe Adapter" it adapts from Multi-Interfact Shoe to Auto-lock shoe.
