Hello all, i’ve Just bought and set up my new 1080 and it’s almost perfect except for one thing. For some reason whenever I switch inputs (I.e to Netflix or turn on the PlayStation) the input switches ok but then just after the home screen pops up. This is really annoying as it means I then need to press the home button on the amp remote and I can’t just use 1 remote to control everything. Searching the net shows other people have solved this by disabling HDMI CEC but I really don’t want to do this as it would still mean having to switch the inputs manually.
Anybody have any ideas on how to solve this? many thanks in advance.
It's disappointing to find this thread after setting up a brand new Sony receiver and being bothered with this unnecessary home screen pop up. I guess I just have to live with it.
Dodut you need HDMI CEC and/or HDMI ARC? If not, try disabling it and use optical from your TV if need be. If this works, then one has to wonder why Sony haven't fixed it in all this time.
I bought my unit "recently", a bit over a month ago. It keeps muting itself, switches the input device randomly and also has shut itself down many times. I begin to think my unit is faulty. It does have the latest firmware installed, OTA popup was thrown at me when I was setting my speakers etc. up when I got the amp.
Nothing seems to help with these issues, factory reset or trying different settings. The most annoying issues are the self-muting and input switching... Like when I go to cook food in the kitchen, I like to leave some background music on. Usually I get to listen to music fine, no issues, but some times amp wants to mute itself or think I must watch TV now and then PC's optical audio gets muted... Sony's own support doesn't seem to want to reply to my customer service ticket, so here I am.
The funniest thing is, amp randomly thinks I wanted to listen to TV's audio even if I disconnect the HDMI cable from the amp. Is the firmware really this bad, or do I just have a bad unit? If the first one is the case, this is not something I'm willing to deal with. I know it was a cheap amplifier (whole 600-700 euros cheaper than the Denon I actually wanted -> thought I'd take the risk with Sony), but come on.
Any ideas, except for RMA and/or buying a device that actually has a working firmware?
That's way worse than I've ever had so possibly a fault with your unit.
Mine has randomly switched inputs a few times but could count them on less than 1 hand and that's after having the amp a year.
Disable HDMI CEC on all your devices and your problem may resolve, but then you'd lose HDMI ARC. HDMI CEC is a massive problem with this receiver.
I would like to use ARC, since it makes life a bit easier when it works in ways it's supposed to (btw, my TV is made by Sony too, a few years old model that I bought last year). I'll try disabling it again and give it a few days.
During an usual week, input switch and/or muting happens about 3-6 times. Sometimes multiple times a day, some days are problem-free at its best. Self-shutdowns aren't caused by the unit not having enough room for air ventilation (in case it would overheat etc.), since it's sitting on an open desk next to TV. Nothing even remotely close to blocking its ventilation. It does get pretty warm fast if I keep my hand close to the amp, but so did my previous Denon.
Wish Sony's tech support would reply to my damn ticket. Would like to know if this really requires RMA in their opinion, or what.
Hi @EFerrorfile
This does seem like a Bravia Sync issue. I'd suggest disabling Bravia Sync on all devices, perform a power cycle by unplugging everything from the mains for a minute, then start enabling the feature on one device at a time, followed by a quick test.

Alright, so I got the issue fixed very recently. All it took was to get rid of the Sony TV I had, and replace it with an LG OLED 55CX. No more HDMI-issues (I even used the very same HDMI-cables with the Sony), no more random amp restarts, no more self-muting/turning off weirdness. It actually... Works? So the issue really was their own TV. The guy that bought the Sony, said that his devices work okay with it, no weirdness. Just a bad match between that TV and this amp. Huh.
At least daily usage is okay now, the unit doesn't drive me insane in a regular basis... Still very eager to upgrade to something that has a good room correction.
Must be something new that LG have done then as my LG TV doesn't play nicely!
I wonder if it's the fact that the CX and DN1080 both support eARC, which I believe is more universally compatible than plain ARC?
Could be. What LG do you have, though? Everything seems fine, at least so far.
