Xperia mini headset doesn't work with my new Xperia M

Hello,

I just exchaged my Xperia Mini for a Xperia M. The Xperia M didn't come wiht a headset, but I thought I could use my old headset that belonged to the Xperia Mini. However, that wasn't the case. Do I really need to buy a new headset, and how do I know that the one I buy works with my new phone..?
