GPS GLONASS

Why can Sony U8500 powered phones not see the Glonass satalites?

I ask because the U8500 powered Samsung Ace 2 can.

Is it true that Arc, Ray and Neo got GLONASS support with the ICS update

The answer is No they have all ways had it the qualcomm chipset used for these has it as standard.

The Samsung Ace 2 uses the same U8500 chipset as P, Sola, U and Go but has a GPS/GLONASS chip, but Sony have built their phones with a GPS only chip.

Sony P, Sola, U and Go for GPS are worst phones Sony has EVER made.

I'm not sure of what exact support that will be included when installing the ICS update and exactly what it can handle in GB, but as far as I've heard and understood there has been some work done concerning GPS for that update. Hopefully this might be included. Slightly_smiling_Face

Well GPS is worse not better, with GB phone had 20 satelites in view and 12 in use and with ICS only 11 in view and 4 in use pathetic, my son has xperia S with ICS and has 25 in view and 15 is use and indoors he has 22 in view and 11 in use, xperia Go has 11 inview and none in use for indoors.

I know different chipset, as I want the phone for satnav ICS is useless as is the phone, so I think I'll flash back to GB, though I do like ICS but GPS is deal breaker

So, from what I understand the ICS performs worse than GB regarding GPS, and the GB as far as I am concerned is not performing good at all......Seems the GPS on the GO is a big failure.....A straight answer from Sony about the GPS performance of the Xperia Go would be appreciated since the more I read about it it seems that something is very bad designed, hardware or software......

I've since used PCC to repair the ICS installation and no change, xperia go is absolute rubbish when it comes to GPS.

I'm sorry to hear that. If you're still having problems with GPS I suggest that you contact your local support team to have it examined at an repair center.

Johan,

Spoke to customer service and was told that it is because the gps module does not have GLONASS support so the Go does not have the accuracy of snapdragon xperias such as the xperia S.

All in all the Go is a poor satnav device and I would not recommend it.

In fact Sony does NOT a midrange phone (less than 4 inch screen) that has GLONASS and therefore suitable for satnav.

So after being a longtime Sony owner (a T68i was first) the next phone will not be a Sony.

The accuracy is so bad that you miss the turn instructions because you've drove past for before the instruction to turn. I know I've tried Google maps, Navfree, Ndrive, Sygic and Copilot

Is it true that Arc, Ray and Neo got GLONASS support with the ICS update

and GO which is the "outdoors" type of phone is still struggling with just GPS support

and it seems that it's not even A-GPS considering how long it takes to

lock in on a fix. when I say long I mean it may never find your position if you are

just waitning ofr it and not to something about it like enable-disable several times than move a little etc...

The sad thing is Sony knew that GPS works really poor with Xperia Go
