JB 4.2 Update gone wrong - Unable to start or turn off

Hi guys,

During the update when the phone was to be restarted and the - volume button to be held down whilst turning it on, the phone never went past the the Sony startup logo.

It is still currently stuck on this logo.  A reset done by holding power and + volume will restart the phone but it will still get stuck at the logo.

Now the issue is I am unable to turn the phone off.  The PC does not recognise when the phone is connected.  I have tried resets whilst the phone is connected and disconnected with no change.

And obviously because this is a P I can not pull the battery.

So the phone is currently stuck ON, displaying the Sony logo and is unable to communicate with my PC.

It was 100% charged when I started the update.  And I presume it will take a number of days if not a week to drain tha battery and switch off in its current state.

Any ideas?

ok install Sony Update Service > restart your PC > disable  your firewall and antivirus > run SUS > connect your phone to your PC > press and hold power & volume up > as soon as the phone is off release power & volume up and quickly press and hold volume down

it might take few attempts

Thanks for the reply.  I have been trying this for the last few hours.  I have even tried a number of different PC's.

If I restart the phone it does not seem to respond to the normal Volume Down and power on.  It just restarts and sits on the Sony logo.

now that's quite odd, perhaps letting the phone run out of battery and then try again with SUS w/o turning on the phone

I will give this a try.  I just hope that the phone doesn't take to long to discharge.

Will update once it has gone flat.

Ok thanks for your help.  I have managed to switch the phone off.

To do this it was just a matter of holding down volume up and the power button untill it vibrates 3 times and switches off.  I did try this earlier however and it would not work.  So just gave it a number of tries.

Once it was off I was able to follow your instructions above to reset the phone.

It actually completed the JB update.

Thats for that.  Problem solved.
