I tried to update my tv KD-55XE7096 but I found out that my firmware is old (v8.764-1000-1.700-00) and cant be updated online (v8.885) or by usb. When I tried the usb update with this one but I got an error that there is no relevant files in usb "No suitable update data was found".
I also found that to update to v8.885 you need v8.535
I did search in support site and I could find only the one before (v8.535).
I tried to update via usb to v8.535 but I again received the error "No suitable update data was found".
Where can I find firmware files older that v8.535???
Or am I doing something wrong with the usb update to get this error ?
I did formated usb to fat 32 and followed the instructions for usd update.
Any help is appreciated.

Solved! Go to Solution.
Well I finally managed to update the firmware for my TV.
I had to do a factory reset first then I had to go through the initial setup of the set and afterwards I did update the firmware with the same USB stick that I was trying to use before.
So to summarize the steps if you are getting the error "software update is not available in TV current mode"
Do a factory reset
Do the initianilation steps
Do the update from USB (it might work if you do the Internet update as well... I didn't try it)
----Magic you have an updated TV set!!!
Hi Nikos,
The firmware version 8.535 can be found here:
Please follow the instructions closely and update your TV to this version.
After the firmware has been installed please download version 8.885 and install according instructions:

Hi Peter
Thank you for tour reply
My problem is that I did try the 8.535 firmware first and I also got the same error...
Thats why I was asking for an older firmware...than 8.535....
Kind Regards
Nikos
I have the same issue - trying to update a KD-65XE7096 from v8.764-1000-1.700-0000 to v8.535 - exact same issue. Tried multiple usb sticks - fat and fat 32 with correct folder name and dropping the file directly in root folder. All no go. What to do?
Hi again
@stixixI do have the same problem as you
I dont know if @Peter_S. can give us a solution but I do believe that we are not the only ones having the same problem,
Did you tried to call Sony service support in your country?
I did tried myself to call support in Greece but I did not had any luck as nobody answer my call.
If you find a solution can you please share it ?
Kind Regards
Nikos
Hi there,
I'm just curious if you got a chance to try a different USB stick for the update. I know from personal experience that not all USBs are equal. Some cheap ones may lack some key features. so trying another one (at least) is important.
You may also want to try re-downloading the update file just in case it got corrupted for any reason

Yep - tried 3 different - and formatted them different as well - no luck ...
I think you should find your nearest service centre. If you're in the UK: services.sony.co.uk/support/en/repair/asc.
